HEX Metals & Minerals is a handcrafted jewellery line that brings rough stones together in minimalist arrangements. Dichotomies combine in unexpectedly beautiful ways to reflect the spectrum that lies between natural & industrial, feminine & masculine, rough & shine. Each piece is inspired by and named after a natural geologic or aquatic body. HEX Metals & Minerals incorporates running themes of strength, androgyny, grace, minimalism, and surprise.
It's immensely important to HEX to promote visibility of queer people of colour (QPOC). We believe that jewellery can grace every kind of body and every gender presentation, from feminine to masculine to nonbinary and everything in between.
HEX Metals & Minerals is handcrafted with love on the territories of the Musqueam, Squasmish and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations (Vancouver).
HEX was born on Treaty One Territory in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
Design without gender.
"Woman" and "man" are arbitrary categories if you don’t identify as a man or a woman, or if you don’t want to look hyperfeminized or masculinized but have no options within the gender you are assigned.
Often the word "androgynous" is used to get around this limitation; unfortunately, in practice, masculinity and plainness are viewed as neutral and femininity is seen as dispensable, leaving no room for any possibility of sparkle or delicacy.
Therefore, one of our important values is to use ungendered language, show a piece on differently-identified models, and avoid categorizing pieces by the woman/man binary.
Jewellery isn't inherently masculine or feminine - we think our pieces look great on any gender expression.
